Black Pipeline, Golden Sunset, Marine Layer, Green Flora, and a vast array of other designs are available at your disposal. Choose whichever setup best suits your taste and head out on the town.

Next up on the list is the versatile VOLADOR 42-Inch Freeride Longboard. With an open end above all the longboard wheels, you won’t have to worry about them clipping the board. Sometimes when you loosen the longboard trucks a bit and take a sharp turn, it can wear down both the longboard and the wheels. Luckily, you won’t have that issue thanks to the clever design.

The longboard is made up of 8-ply Maple wood, making it about as durable as they come. Epoxy glue is used throughout the top to hold strong onto the sandpaper grip, so you don’t have to worry about scuffing it up from wear and tear. Seven-inch aluminum trucks attached to the front and back of the board are very lightweight, but they’re perfectly adjustable and strong as can be.

Banana Tree, Fuji Sakura, Solar, Ice Cream, and a few other design options are up for you to choose from. Some of the options come with close-toed ends to cover the longboard wheels, while others are open. Keep this in mind when you come to a conclusion, as you don’t want to get too mixed up between the two!

Pros:
+ Durable, trust-worthy 8-ply Maple wood throughout the longboard
+ Comes with more than enough style options

The Atom Drop Through Longboard is an extra-wide option for those of you who are looking to have a little bit more handle on long straightaways. The overall dimensions come out to 40 x 10 x 5.1 inches, making it quite a bit roomier than most of the other complete longboards on the list. If you’re a beginner or you just want more space, this might be your best bet.

An 80 grit grip along the top of the Atom Drop Through takes a unique spin on the typical selection while maintaining a similar level of hold. The only difference is that it doesn’t get as weather-beaten, which can be a huge advantage to people living in colder regions. A thick core in the board further prevents weather damage as well.

Now for the color options: Bamboo, Owl, Blue Geo, and Purple Veneer all come with an artistic impression unique to the company. Each design even has a corresponding color to the longboard trucks and wheels, which is a step or two more than we had initially expected. Pre-oiled ABEC 9’s keep you cruising as fast as you’d like, which is always nice.

Pros:
+ Ultra-wide and dense longboard for easy handling
+ Comes equipped with smooth ride ABEC 9 longboard bearings, some of the best around
+ Pick a unique style and roll with it from the four options available

Why We Like It – It’s not every day that we come across a beginner longboard for cruising that strays too far outside of the typically expected dimensions. This one gives us something that we’ve been trying to find for quite some time with the wide setup. Atom is a fantastic longboard brand, so we recommend you check it out! Try out the Atom Pintail longboard for an alternative to beginner longboards like the Atom Drop Deck Longboard.

4. Playshion 39 Inch Drop Through Freestyle Longboard

Playshion 39 Inch Drop Through Freestyle Longboard

Check Price on Amazon

If you like the sound of the open-toed longboard mentioned earlier in the list, you might enjoy the Playshion 39 Inch Drop Through Freestyle Longboard. The end actually sticks out a little further, which prevents any clipping whatsoever. Coming in at 39 inches long and 9.1 inches wide, it fits the average longboard dimensions pretty well.

The three simple color selections are Black Orange, Ladder, and Mango. Each option has slightly different wheel colors and the design in the sandpaper is unique as well. All graphics are applied to prevent peeling, ripping, and so on. This feature usually increases a longboard’s cost quite a bit, but it doesn’t in this case!

Seven-inch aluminum trucks are only made better by the ABEC 9 longboard bearings to keep this longboard’s gear top-notch. Even the longboard wheels are made to withstand the normal wearing from asphalt and concrete. If you’re fed up with constantly replacing random pieces on your longboard, consider the Playshion Drop Through Freestyle.

Pros:
+ Choose from three basic yet stylish colors
+ Comes with ABEC 9 bearing and aluminum trucks
+ Comfortable open-ended design to prevent wheel clipping

Why We Like It – Longboards with open edges are slowly increasing in popularity. Paired with high-quality materials throughout, this product is a solid deal.

If you’ve been on the hunt for a longer board, try out the Quest Super Cruiser Longboard Skateboard. At 44” long, it’s one of the biggest options you’ll find almost anywhere. It’s perfect for people who are still trying to get the hang of riding a longboard or those who are a little bit taller than your average skater.

Flexible Bamboo and hardened Maple Wood make up the majority of the Quest Super Cruiser deck longboard, both of which are durable and lightweight as they come. They’re weather-treated to ensure that no cracking, peeling, or other damage comes to them from natural wear and tear. 7-ply is more than enough to prevent breaking upon normal drops or falls.

The wheels hang out from the edges of the board, reducing the possibility of it biting down and stopping you. It also keeps your Quest Super Cruiser Longboard Skateboard deck from wearing down if they slowly grind away over time. The whole deck style takes on the look and feel of a complete skateboard, bringing a familiar activity to those who haven’t tried complete longboards too much.

Pros:
+ Built out of sturdy, reliable bamboo and maple
+ Looks and feels very similar to a complete skateboard

7. Magneto Longboards Bamboo

Magneto Longboards Bamboo

Check Price on Amazon

Magneto Bamboo Longboards are a little bit of a longer option, just a tad bit shorter than #6 at 42 inches long. It’s 9 inches wide, which seems to fit most rider’s preferences. Too narrow would be tough to balance, while too much width would result in not enough power to take sharp turns when you need to.

Given the name, bamboo is the main material used in combination with fiberglass. The use of these two is the best possible match for flexibility and low weight. Fiberglass also prevents shards of wood from sticking out in case it cracks from a heavy hit. The curvature of the board lets you go for a downhill ride much easier.

A laser-etched design looks pretty neat across all four options, so choose whichever feels right. These options include the Bamboo Carving Longboard, the Bamboo Drop Down Longboard & Fiberglass Through Longboard, a Carbon Fiber Longboard, and The Tesla. Each choice uses slightly different materials that correspond with their given name. This model is great for downhill longboarding.

Pros:
+ Much longer than the average longboard
+ Comes in a variety of materials and designs
+ Uses a flexible, crack-proof construction
+ Curved board for downhill ride capabilities

Why We Like It – Being able to select what materials you want your new board to be made out of is the greatest way to pick only the exact stuff that you need. After all, it’s all about what makes you feel the most comfortable.

8. MBS All-Terrain Drop Deck Longboard

MBS All-Terrain Longboard

Check Price on Amazon

It’s not every day that we come across a longboard or complete skateboard that can be used on tough terrains such as grass and dirt. The MBS All-Terrain Drop Deck Longboard is quite the exception to this occurrence, with every single detail geared to work wherever you need it to. The textured wheels take the lead in this advancement, but there are many more features to check out.

These longboard wheels are made to bounce and flex as you need them to, especially if you’re going off of ramps or low drops. With the rubber coating around the longboard bearings, you don’t have to concern yourself about whether or not they’ll randomly pop out of place. These wheels are slightly bigger as well, at 100mm x 65mm for more cushion.

The drop deck longboard keeps you lower than normal, which is nice if you’re trying to keep a lower center of gravity. Tough terrain requires you to have more control, and the drop deck allows that. It’s made out of maple wood to allow for an incredibly high weight limit, regardless of where it’s being used.

Pros:
+ Perfect for almost any terrain that you could need it for
+ Uses extra bouncy wheels and bearings
+ The drop deck for a lower center of gravity
+ Maple deck

Why We Like It – We like the MBS All-Terrain Longboard because it’s extremely rare to find a longboard that works on grass or dirt without a motor.

JUCKER HAWAII Original Longboard Skateboards

The JUCKER HAWAII Original Complete Longboards infuse the true, beautiful spirit of Hawaii into every board. Made in Maui, they come straight from the state from start to finish. Each longboard has a unique pattern selected by you from the four available options. Some of them use a plethora of colors, while others are simple black on wood.

You can also decide whether or not you want an open end over the tires. While it’s always nice to prevent the longboard wheels from wearing down or clipping while you’re riding around, open edges aren’t everyone’s favorite appearance. With the JUCKER HAWAII longboard decks, it’s 100% up to you to decide what you want.

Bamboo is the sole wood used throughout the deck. Excellent craftsmanship creates a flexible, lightweight, durable product that any skateboarder would fall in love with. It looks fresh and holds onto the classic bamboo appearance for the duration of its use, unlike other woods that dull out over time.

Pros:
+ Made in Maui for an authentic Hawaiian experience
+ Uses Hawaiian patterns directly applied to bamboo wood
+ 42 inches long with 7-inch aluminum trucks

Why We Like It – Finding a durable, stylish board designed and produced right in the lovely state of Hawaii is a gem that we simply couldn’t pass up.

For skaters who are always on the go, looking for the next best way to get around town in a quick fashion, the RIMABLE Drop-Through Longboard is a wonderful solution. It’s made to be lightweight and ready to go whenever you are. Since it’s only 4-ply, you’ll have the lightest deck on the whole list.

Pre-lubricated bearings on all four longboard wheels ensure you’ll be able to hit top speeds on this lightweight longboard. As with every other board on the list, it comes with 7-inch aluminum trucks with high rebound bushings. While it might not be the best for high impacts, it’s certainly a contender for the quickest longboard in the world!

The see-through grip tape on the top of the deck keeps you stuck to it as long as you need. You won’t be losing grip or scuffing up the tape anytime soon. The unique dreamcatcher design on the bottom is the only option available, although it’s the only one we’d want! It’s patterned with a heat-transferred graphic from top to bottom.

Pros:
+ Lightweight but incredibly durable 4-ply bamboo
+ Comes with a stylish, unique dreamcatcher pattern
+ Uses transparent grip tape instead of sandpaper

Why We Like It – The design on the bottom of the deck was the initial draw for us, but the grip tape and 4-ply bamboo definitely kept us interested

Longboard Buyers Guide

Now that you have an idea of what the best longboards on the market are, you can cut out all of the extra research you might’ve been planning. That being said, we’re sure there are quite a few questions you probably have. What makes one longboard better than the next?

What material should you prefer, and at what ply? Don’t stress though, we have you covered once more! If you’re still looking for a little bit more assistance, read on of the Longboard beginners’ guide!

What type of wood works best with a longboard?

While there’s a general idea that every longboard should be as solid as possible, that’s not always the case. For example, you wouldn’t want a super heavy deck to slow you down if you’re trying to get to top speeds. Maple is great because it’s super durable, but it’s not always the lightest wood. Bamboo, on the other hand, is very lightweight and flexible, while also remaining fairly durable.

Carbon fiber and fiberglass prevent splintering and they’re pretty flexible as well. All in all, it’s up for you to decide which works best for you and your situation. Keep in mind that higher plywood results in higher durability but heavier weight. Lower ply means lower weight but also less durable.

What’s better: Grip tape or sandpaper for longboards?

This is one of those things that people go back and forth on. Grip tape preserves the wooden appearance, which is a huge preference for many people. It’s also great at keeping you in place without scuffing up the tape over time. That being said, it’s much harder to replace transparent grip tape than it is to replace sandpaper.

Sandpaper is also much more of a classic material to use, causing heaps of new skaters to trust in what’s been working for decades. Just as it was with the type of wood you use, the grip tape or sandpaper preference is entirely up to you. One isn’t generally better than the other in most cases.

Expert Tip

If you’re new to picking out a longboard, try to stick with wider, longer deck styles. They’re much easier to handle and adjust as long as you don’t try to take corners too sharply.

Did You Know?

Unlike skateboards, longboards aren’t meant to perform all sorts of tricks. In fact, their intention is to let the rider cruise around at a fast pace, sometimes twice as fast as a traditional skateboard. While it’s entirely possible to do certain tricks on a longboard, you won’t find it anywhere near as easily as it is with a skateboard.

People who haven’t skateboarded at all will often find it much easier to start out on a longboard since there’s not very many adjustments or special techniques required to get started. Remember: Always start with a bigger longboard and work your way to the size that’s most comfortable for you to move around town at a steady pace.

Should I get a Skateboard or Longboard?

If you have been looking to buy a skateboard or longboard, you may have run into some trouble. Very often, these names are interchanged and that can provide a lot of confusion. Unlike skateboards, longboards were first available in the 1950s. They were longer, and were supposed to stimulate a feeling of surfing on a sidewalk. In the late 1950s, longboards started changing in size for convenience, and the modern skateboard was born.

Skateboards and longboards can look similar, but in reality, they’re two different things. It’s important to know what you are getting into when buying either one. We are here to help inform you about the features of each and explain why they are important.

Skateboard or Longboard for a Beginner?

Skateboard or Longboard for BeginnersBoth longboards and skateboards are good for beginners, but from our research, we determined that a longboard is the ideal beginner board. Longboards are made for cruising, they are longer and give more stability when riding. By getting a longboard first, you will be able to learn to brake effectively.

Without a good brake technique when cruising, you will quickly end up bruised up on the side of the sidewalk. A longboard is perfect for anyone that needs to learn the basics, and then wants to advance to the skateboard.

Longboards also have softer wheels than skateboards, which also allows them to cruise easier. Hard, small wheels can be detrimental to cruising, since they can’t go over bumps and gravel as well as softer wheels.

There is one key thing to know when buying a longboard: it’s not a good idea to do tricks on it. In fact, it’s not recommended at all. Longboards have a distinct shape, and doing flips with it is close to impossible. People who are committed to trying to do tricks with a longboard may succeed in the long run, but it takes a lot longer than it would with a normal skateboard.

Is it Easier to Ride a Longboard or a Skateboard?

Definitely a longboard! The big, soft longboard wheels will help you to easily cruise around your neighborhood and town. Small, hard wheels, like those of a skateboard, can easily stop you after you run over a small crack or bump, which can make the skating bothersome.

The pro of the longboard in this case, is that all you have to focus on is cruising, and they can go rather fast. The con is that the big wheels are significantly heavier than their skateboard alternative.

The pro of the small, skateboard wheels is that they’re lightweight and good for riding around in parks.

Even if you are intending to do tricks early on, it’s still recommended to learn to ride a longboard first. It will give you confidence, allowing you to have a sense of achievement when you decide to move on to a skateboard. It will also allow you to master the essential, key component to skateboarding: cruising and braking.

When you have a board that focuses only on those two sole features, it will be much easier to adjust and learn. It’s also safer, however, you should watch out for the speeds you will be cruising at. The big wheels can end up rolling at very high speeds, and that’s why it’s recommended to learn braking when slowly cruising.

If you are on a budget and cannot afford to buy both a longboard and later a skateboard, it’s possible to also start with a skateboard. It may be harder, since they are smaller and require more balance control, but it’s definitely possible. The small wheels will slow down after bumps and cracks, which may be an advantage, and you will be able to start learning tricks asap. That is not often recommended, however, since professionals state that learning the basics is crucial before going to trying tricks.

What’s Better, Longboard or Skateboard?

It all depends on personal preference! People who like to cruise around the town, their neighborhood, city or streets prefer the longboard. It offers them very good speeds and can get them to places quickly. Longboards don’t stop when they hit cracks or bumps and are a great means of transportation. They’re also a great tool for relaxation when you just want to go out in the fresh air and cruise.

Normal skateboards are ideal for people who want to do tricks and spend a lot of time in skate parks. A skateboard can allow them to quickly fall into the addicting hobby of skateboarding. It can be demotivating at first, since you will be falling a lot and tricks are far from easy. You will earn way more bruises when learning a skateboard, but you will also avoid the transition curve from a longboard to a skateboard.

In the end, it’s up to the buyer to see what they prefer. Both boards can provide you with great experiences, as long as you commit to learning!

White Wave Longboard Review

Here at MyProScooter, we do our best job to scour the internet in search of the highest quality gear in the world. When we were searching for a budget-friendly, top-notch longboard, we came across the White Wave Bamboo Longboards that kept seeming to have some of the greatest reviews on nearly every platform we found it on.

The unique appearance is definitely the first thing that drew our eyes to it. It’s not too often that we come across a texture board that truly appreciates the naturally appealing look of bamboo wood. Once we really started digging into it and seeing everything else it had to offer, we knew we had to share it. If the White Wave Bamboo board sounds like something you’re interested in, read on!

White Wave Bamboo Longboard

Key Features

We all know how much appearance matters with our longboards, so let’s jump into the designs that you can choose from with this one. The wide variety of styles includes unique names like Drifter, Warrior, Mayhem, Missile, and a few others. They all come with their own corresponding wheel color, so keep an eye on them when it’s time to choose.

Another important feature to look over when you’re ready to pick your design is whether or not you want an open edge. These open edges on longboards are great for reducing the chance of your wheels clipping on sharp turns, but the appearance isn’t for everyone. If you’re fairly careful with your movements, feel free to pick whichever suits your style.

Nobody wants to crack their new board, so we did a little bit of further research into the combination used with this particular setup. Bamboo and Canadian Maple woods are some of the most durable in the skateboarding industry, so we knew we hit gold here. Not only are they great at withstanding heavy impacts, but they’re also fairly lightweight.

Finally, we took a look into the nuts and bolts that held it all together. The 7-inch aluminum trucks are standard in the world of skating, so it was a relief to see them on this longboard. Backed up with urethane wheels that use ABEC 9 bearings, this board will fly down the street at high speeds without skipping a beat.

Pros

+ Choose from one of the seven different design styles that have unique patterns, wheel colors, and edge styles

+ Made out of a lightweight, durable Canadian Maple wood and Bamboo combination

+ Gives you the option of picking open or closed edge for easier turning

+ Comes equipped with urethane wheels that have the well-sought after ABEC 9 bearings

Cons

The White Wave Bamboo Longboards all use clear grip tape, which isn’t really a con. Some skaters prefer the classic sandpaper, which isn’t an option with this board. That being said, clear grip tape has practically the same effect.

Who Is It Suitable For?

This longboard is suitable for anyone from beginner to expert who’s looking for a budget-friendly board with the latest additions. The durability, bearings, and appearance can’t really get any better than it comes with this product. If you’ve been on the hunt for something new to add to your collection, this might be your best bet.

Beginners will find the open edges much more useful, especially if they’ve never ridden a typical skateboard before. Tire clipping can be frustrating, as it slows you down and wears down the tires and the board. Opt for the open edge if you’re on the fence about the two styles, you’ll love it!

Why We Like It

We like the White Wave Bamboo Longboards because they’re incredibly appealing to the eye, but the quality stays great throughout the construction. It’s far too often that we see a longboard that looks good, but it doesn’t quite feel good. That’s not the case with this board, as it uses the best gear and materials from the trucks and the bearings to the bamboo and Canadian Maple wood.

For toughness and several variations in appearance and style, this one definitely takes the cake. The only thing you have left to do now is deciding which pattern you want and hit the road on your new longboard!

Key Features

The choice of wood can quite literally make or break your longboard. Luckily, the Quest Skateboards California Native comes with a 7-ply hardwood maple deck. Maple is unanimously known as one of the strongest woods in the world. When it’s used on a longboard, it’s ultra-lightweight and incredibly durable.

Seven-inch aluminum trucks are used to keep your new board feeling sturdy. You’ll feel in control as can be, without the heavy weight of steel. Much like maple, aluminum is lightweight and durable. The combination helps you handle the board with ease, while being able to trust in the high-quality construction.

The adjustable trucks are also great because they let you change up how well you can take sharp turns. Looser trucks result in an easier turn, while they can also cause you to slip up a little bit. Find the happy medium and you’ll be rolling without an issue. All it takes is a few adjustments that can be done in a matter of seconds.

A unique open wheel design means you don’t have to worry about the edge of the board biting down on the wheels when you turn. Most other brands neglect to address this common issue, but the California Native board doesn’t. Sharp turns all depend on the adjustments of your trucks, not the closed end of the longboard!

Pros

+ A 7-ply maple deck gives you extreme durability and lightweight ease of control

+ Comes with 7-inch aluminum trucks that let you adjust them for smooth sharp corners

+ The open edge prevents the wheels from clipping the board when you’re riding along

+ The unique design on the bottom and top of the board is stylish as they come

Cons

– It might not be such an issue, but there’s only one color/design to choose from. Some people prefer more options, but others love the unique pattern that gives you an aesthetic appearance.

Who is it Suitable For?

The Quest Skateboards California Native is honestly suitable for riders of all experience levels. The open edge is ultimately one of the best features anyone could find in a longboard. Being able to have so many adjustments combined with maximum durability is nearly unmatched in all other longboards.

With so many options available on the internet, it can be a bit frustrating choosing between one and another. If you’re looking for a great place to start or a fantastic addition to your longboard collection, then this one should be your last stop. It comes with more than enough to keep you entertained while letting you grow as a border.

Why We Like It

We like this board so much because it gives the customer everything they need as a beginner or an expert. Instead of leaving you to purchase extra aluminum trucks or special bearings, this one comes packed with all of the essentials. Stability, control, ease of handling, and great design are all at your disposal.

The 41-inch longboard is the perfect length for riders of almost any size. The bottom is etched with a laser to prevent it from scuffing up. The protective layer added over the etching paired with the sandpaper protects the board through and through.

With all of these features added up, what’s not to like? We knew that it would be a huge hit in the longboarding community, which is why we had to share it the second we saw it! Further research proved that it’s definitely the gem we initially thought it to be. So, what are you waiting for? Let us know how it worked for you!
