Electric Dirt Bikes Buyers Guide
What is my skill level?
Don’t get ahead of yourself! The first thing to think about before choosing the best electric dirt bike for your child is their skill level at dirt bike riding. Some people go for the biggest, loudest and most expensive dirt bikes before even considering if they can properly handle the bike. Dirt biking is a serious and sometimes dangerous game and not a sport to mess about in. Keep this in mind! Maintaining a dirt bike can be a lot of hard work, therefore consider this when making your decision.
What is my budget?
Some electric dirt bikes are obviously more expensive than others. But don’t let this put you off. Sometimes the more expensive option is the best fit for your teen or kid. There is no point compromising on the safety and comfort of the rider!
What type of riding are you doing?
It’s probably not worth it buying a motocross race bike if you’re only riding on single tracks and trails. Think about what riding you’re most likely to be doing and what bike best suits you for that. The fastest electric dirt bikes aren’t going to perform as well on single-track riding for instance. A helpful suggestion!
Clutch or automatic?
An important choice when buying your electric dirt bike is whether you want to go for clutch or automatic. Most kids are more than capable of learning to work a clutch on a dirt bike. However, first riders are probably going to more confident with an automatic – it’s simpler and lets them concentrate more on enjoying the ride!
Safety Gear
The frame on a dirt bike is small and light so that the dirt bike is perfect for mobility and jumping.
It’s a proper childhood – ripping around in the dirt with no mobile phones and just enjoying the fresh air. However, always have your kids wear the appropriate and best safety gear! Always watch over them when they are riding and make sure you’re in a safe environment for dirt biking. Remember – safety is key.
Conclusion
All in all, the best electric dirt bike is the one suited to your ability and comfort. Remember: don’t get ahead of yourself and buy the biggest and fastest bike. Whatever your style of racing, there is a bike to go with it. So bear this in mind before choosing your bike. Nevertheless, going electric for your dirt bike is a great way of cutting down pollution and helping the planet!
Electric bikes are also a quieter version of the insanely noisy gas dirt bike. A better option if you want to rip through the trails and not disturb anyone or the wildlife. Dirt bikes are a massive amount of fun and a great way to spend time as a family out on the dirt tracks! Ride on!

Trail Bike’s Buyers Guide
As you can see from the bikes we’ve listed above, there are lots of bits and pieces you’ll need to think about when it comes to choosing the mountain bike that’s right for you. While you’re guaranteed to find a bike you love from the list above, choosing one is the next step you’ll need to take.
Fortunately, for the best of this article, we’re going to explore everything you need to look for when choosing a trail bike that suits what you need. Here’s the complete trail bike buying guide you need to know in 2020.
Frame
One of the first things you’ll want to consider when choosing a trail bike is what kind of frame your preferred bike is using, and how this relates to what you’re looking for. What’s more, there’s a lot you’re going to need to think about.
You’ll first want to make sure the bike frame you choose is the right height for you, which should be easy since most bikes are available in multiple sizes. You’ll then want to think about the weight of the frame to see how well you can carry it around, as well as considering how fast you’ll be able to go.
Suspension
The next most important thing you’ll need to think about is the suspension that your chosen bike has to offer you. When traversing trails in the mountains or countryside, the chances are it’s not going to be as smooth as a freshly paved sidewalk.
This is why suspension is important. The suspension you choose will define how much shock and vibration your bike will absorb. The higher quality the suspension, the more shock will be absorbed, and more comfortable and stable your ride will be.
Budget
Of course, a more personal consideration you’ll want to think about is making sure the bike you’ve chosen will fit into your budget. Before you start looking into trail bikes, set yourself a budget for what you’re willing to spend, but make sure you think about what kind of experience you’re looking for.
If you’re a beginner and you’re just trying trail biking out, getting yourself a bike between the $100 and $300 should be ideal. For regular bikers looking for a great experience, $300 should $700 should be a good price range.
If you’re looking for a premium experience and the best quality bike that keep up with your style of riding, you’ll be looking around the $700 price range. Of course, this is completely up to you, but when it comes to bikes, the more you spend, the more you’ll get out of your bike.
The wheels that your bike uses are super important because this is the part of the bike that will create and define your riding experience. Ideally, you’ll go to want to think about getting thick wheels that are durable and will stand up against the terrain you’re riding over.
However, if you’re looking for a professional experience, it’s highly recommended you look into getting a bike that’s compatible with tubeless tires. This means you won’t need to worry about the tires bursting while riding over rocky ground.
You’ll also want to think about the wheels themselves and how durable they are. Look for alloy rims and aluminum spokes that are durable enough to withstand whatever trail you attempt to tackle.
There’s no point in spending a small fortune on a new bike only to find it’s the most uncomfortable ride going. You’re not going to enjoy yourself, and you’ll quickly fall out of love with your trail riding passion.
Instead, look at what kind of seat the bike is offering. While mountain bike seats aren’t going to be the most comfortable thing in the world, getting a cushioned seat, or choosing a bike with the ability to upgrade, can be a great way to maximize the enjoyment of your experience.
FAQs on Trail Bikes in 2020
Can you use trail bikes on roads?
Of course! While trail bikes are designed for extreme trail environments, there’s no reason why you can’t use these bikes in other areas of your life, including while you’re going about your day!
Is there only one type of mountain bike?
In short, there are two types of mountain bikes; hardtail and full suspension. The difference is hardtail bikes have solid suspension at the front, whereas full suspension, well, have full suspension on both the front and rear of the bike.
What’s better; hardtail or full suspension?
This completely depends on what you’re after. As a rule of thumb, the more uneven and rockier the terrain, the more suspension you’ll need. If you’re traversing countryside tracks and forest paths, the simpler hardtail will be fine. If you’re going for extreme mountain courses, you’ll need full suspension.
Conclusion
As you can see, the landscape of mountain trail bikes is a vast one, but with the top recommendations and all the information you need to know, you’re sure to have everything you need to get the bike that’s best suited to you!

Bike Trainers Buyers Guide
Space vs. Stability
One of the largest choices to make when choosing your ideal bike trainer is that of the amount of space you are willing to offer for your bike. Some of these are large, attractive objects that will dominate any household room, while others are designed to be unobtrusive or easily folded and packed away out of sight.
Do you travel a lot, or work out in a smaller room that gets used for other purposes during the day? Then perhaps one of the folding models with transport wheels, or lighter-weight collapsible bike trainers might be the ideal fit for you.
Alternatively, do you have a dedicated workout room and an intense cycling plan? Then one of the larger, heavy-duty models with a focus on stability and power might be a better fit.
Styles of Chairs
How do you prefer to ride a bike? Seated upright? Reclining? Standing up? There are bike trainers to suit all of these approaches, from large, luxurious reclining exercise bikes to lightweight upright bikes and heavy-duty equipment suitable for standing upon. Before purchasing a bike trainer, it is worth considering what your preferred posture is when riding a bike and choosing the model that best fits your preference.
Reclining bike trainers also take up substantially more space than upright ones, requiring enough room for the rider to lie down, and so provide more of a luxurious option for those with room to spare.
Comfort
No model of bike trainer should be actively uncomfortable, but some have more padding than others. Consider the size of the seat and its padding, as well as the ergonomic design of both the seat and the handlebars. All of these factors affect your comfort when exercising on a bike trainer for extended periods of time, and so are worth thinking about before you purchase anything. Additional comfort features are also worth considering – certain models come with heat-wicking seat cushions, adding to the potential comfort of a long ride.
Additional features
Many bike trainers offer screens to show feedback on your workout. Most of these will show speed, distance, and calories burned, but only some come with the handlebar pulse sensors to show your heart rate in real time. If that’s information you particularly care about, it may be worth splashing out on one of the more premium models of an exercise bike.
Many also offer phone mounts, enabling you to watch videos or listen to music while exercising, but only some of these can be adjusted to fit a larger tablet or iPad. Depending on your preferred video platform and how much you care about mid-workout entertainment, this may be an important consideration.
Flywheels
The technical mechanisms of bike trainers also vary between models. Some have simple single wheel structures, while others offer flywheels that mimic the two-wheel chain-linked structure of a road bike. Single-wheeled bike trainers will take up less space in your home, packing away more easily into a confined space, but flywheel-equipped models will offer a riding experience closer to that of a road bike.
This is particularly apparent when it comes to acceleration, with the dual flywheel model spinning up in a much more natural and comfortable manner. Some of these flywheel models are adjustable, with two possible wheel arrangements, offering a higher maximum challenge level for those who want an even harder workout.
These tend to be the higher-end models, however, and the regular flywheel versions are likely to be sufficient for most purposes. If you’re a dedicated cyclist in search of extreme practice within the comfort of your own home, however, then a bidirectional flywheel model may be just the thing for you.
Safety Considerations
Many of the bikes listed above only support users weighing up to 270 to 280 lbs. If you’re heavier than this, you’re going to need to take that into account and purchase one of the sturdier bike trainers available. This is an important safety consideration and one which could easily be overlooked.
If you are particularly safety-conscious, however, you may wish to consider a model that offers full toe cages rather than flimsier straps, ensuring that your feet stay firmly in place on the pedals without slipping off during more intense workout sessions. Most models also offer emergency stop knobs (often as a secondary function of the manual tension adjustment knob), allowing you to bring the bike to a halt mid-ride in case of emergency.
Can I fold it away?
Some of the lighter models can be folded up and packed away, clearing them out of the room when not in use. The more heavy-duty models for larger users are unlikely to fold like this, however, focusing more on stability and strength than on space. The reinforced steel tubing of the larger models can be exceptionally strong, allowing for much more extreme workout plans, but does not lend itself to foldable designs.
Contrastingly, the foldable options don’t offer the same stability as the larger models, and therefore run the risk of collapsing under more energetic exercise or larger users. In between these two extremes are models with wheels, allowing slightly more sturdy bike trainers to be pushed aside into the corner of the room.
What about transport?
The lighter, more foldable models mentioned above can be transported from place to place. Some of the heavier models describe themselves as having “transport wheels,” but these are designed more for transporting the bike trainer from a storage corner to an active position in the room, rather than for moving the bike from one building to another. Most of these bike trainers are going to be challenging to move (some more so than others) and may well dominate smaller rooms.
Conclusion
The bike trainer market is large and complex, but this list offers some of the best models available in 2020. All of these have their strengths, and your personal needs and exercise preferences will determine which bike trainer is right for you. Whether you want to prioritize high-intensity exercise or easy portability, there’s an exercise bike to fit your needs out there. Some are small and light, while others offer a smooth experience more like that of riding a road bike; there is no single set bike trainer experience.
Everyone has different priorities and considerations, and the market is broad enough to allow for all needs, although many of the options are fairly large and sturdy. Considerations such as space are going to limit your buying options more than other categories such as additional features and screens. Hopefully, this guide has served to clear up which bikes fit your personal exercise needs best, enabling you to make a choice with confidence.
When you first get a new bike, you’re likely to fall in love with every last detail. The stylish frame, the ergonomic handlebars, the comfortable seat, and of course the fast-moving wheels. Road Bike Wheels Buyer’s Guide
There are literally thousands of different road bike tires that you could buy across the world. With so many options, you might be too confused to buy any of them! We don’t blame you though, which is why we’ve decided to make a little buyer’s guide to assist you through the process and answer any other questions you might have.
For example, how do you know if you should choose carbon fiber wheels or aluminum alloy wheels? Or what about the difference between clincher and tubular wheels? Again, don’t stress over it. We’ve got you covered below!
Should you choose aluminum alloy or carbon fiber wheels for your road bike?
The materials that your bicycle wheels are made out of can have a much greater impact on your bike’s overall performance than you might think. Carbon fiber generally ways a bit less than aluminum, but that can change with certain alloys.
Also, many casual cyclists prefer aluminum because it bends upon impact instead of completely breaking as some carbon fiber wheels do. That being said, it takes a whole lot more force to break a carbon fiber wheel than it does to bend an aluminum wheel.
The main thing you should consider when purchasing your new road bike wheels is what type of cycling you’ll be doing. For casual riding or commuting, aluminum wheels will work a charm. If you’re riding your bike for exercise, sport, or speed, then carbon fiber should definitely be your choice. So, what will it be, the classic aluminum or the new-age, pro-quality carbon fiber? The choice is yours!
Are clincher wheels or tubular wheels better?
The difference between clincher wheels and tubular wheels is absolutely worth noting. You wouldn’t want to end up with a pair of tubular wheels if you have no idea how to change a tire and sew it back up. Clincher wheels allow the tube tire to set within the wheel itself, bracing the tube in case of impact. When a clincher tire flattens or pops, you can remove it and replace it with a new tube in under a couple of minutes.
On the other hand, when a tubular tire pops or flattens, you have to slice it open, patch the hole, and sew it back up if you want to get back home without walking much. As you can probably assume, this takes a whole lot more time and it’s not the easiest task to take on. That being said, some people are experts at tubular tires, and they can get the job done in no time! For convenience purposes, clincher wheels are usually the best option out there.
Does appearance matter to you?
Some of the worst cases of buyer’s remorse come from choosing the wrong appearance or settling for one. When you’re spending your hard-earned money on a passion you love, always go for the appearance you love, too! Many of these wheels come with several selections, or you could simply opt for the low-profile looks of the mono-colored sets. It’s all up to you and how you want to look when you’re cruising down the road!

Bike Pump Buyers Guide
Types of a bicycle pump
Floor pump
A floor pump is essential for any cyclist. They are freestanding, with a wide base and a plunger which should allow you to inflate your tires comfortably. Features of floor pumps include a flexible hose for ease of use and a pressure gauge displaying PSI for accuracy. A large chamber allows for speedy, effective performance. This type of pump is not typically portable and therefore is best kept at home.
However, floor pumps have a greater volume and will reach high pressures without requiring as much time or effort as a mini pump, making them a vital item for any rider. An accurate, readable gauge is essential to any good floor pump. Factors such as comfort, ergonomics, maximum pressure and precision should be considered when buying a floor pump.
Mini pump
A mini or hand pump is a good piece of equipment to have for on-the-go inflation. Nobody wants to get a puncture while out and about, but when an emergency strikes, this item can save the day. Many come with a handy mount bracket to attach to your bike frame, although most are small and light enough to fit in your backpack or basket. You may need to use more effort to reach a suitable tire pressure using a mini pump than a floor pump, as their smaller size means less volume.
Furthermore, a mini pump will not typically reach optimum tire pressures but should do the trick until you get home. Some come with a hose, but many simply attach to the valve directly without any extra effort required. Overall, this style of pump is invaluable in an emergency or to make minor pressure adjustments.
Types of valve
The two main types of valve are Presta and Schrader. The Schrader is the wider of the two, and is a uniform circumference all the way down, with a pin in the center to adjust the air. This type of valve can often be seen on car tires and mountain bike or fitness bike tires, as well as tires on children’s bikes. Usually, a wider tire indicates a Schrader valve.
A Presta valve is more likely to be seen on road or performance bicycles and can hold higher pressures. This type of valve can be identified by its graduated appearance with a removable nut on the end for adjustments.
Dunlop valves are also used but are less common. They are similar in appearance to a Presta valve but are wider. Because they are rarer, if you use tires with this type of valve, ensure that whichever pump you buy is compatible with Dunlop valves.
Pump heads
The majority of bike pumps on the market today are compatible with both Schrader and Presta valves, using different technologies to achieve this. Some pumps use dual or twin heads with two separate gaskets for each valve type. Others are simply adjustable, fitting both common types of the valve without any extra effort. It is common for modern pumps to also include needles and other adapters to inflate sports balls, pool floats, and other inflatable items. Floor pumps often include a clip with these for easy storage.
Do I need both a mini and floor pump?
A floor pump is without a doubt a vital piece of kit. However, while a floor pump is an important and effective tool, you will not typically be able to take it on rides with you. Conversely, while a mini pump is a great portable piece of equipment you will be glad to have in a predicament, it may not match the performance of a floor pump in terms of factors such as volume and accuracy.
Therefore, it is advisable to cover all bases and invest in a floor pump to keep at home as well as a mini pump to take on the road. However, some modern pumps claim to reach high PSI with relative ease, while still being super compact.
How do I know if my pump will last?
Many of the bike pumps in our buyer’s guide are made of durable steel or aluminum alloy. It may be worth investing in a more expensive pump made of metal than opting for a cheaper pump with lots of plastic parts, as the former may save you money in the long run because it will likely be more durable. Do not worry about forgoing quality for transportability, as mini pumps are often made of hard-wearing metals despite their compact size and low weight.
What PSI do I need?
Optimum tire pressure is important for smooth, speedy cycling. Furthermore, unsuitable pressure can result in annoying and dangerous flat tires. Narrow tires usually require more pressure than wide tires. Ensure that whichever pump you choose can reach your required PSI. The inclusion of an accurate and precise gauge – a must for any good floor pump – can help you achieve ideal pressure.
Conclusion
In conclusion, there are many factors to take into account when purchasing a bike pump. Floor and mini pumps are both useful pieces of equipment in their own ways, and many cyclists find it beneficial to have both. It is also useful to think about the type of tires you have when choosing a pump, as varying types can require different amounts of pressure.
It is important to note the type of valve your tires have and ensure you opt for a suitable pump. Remember that many modern pumps are suitable for both Schrader and Presta valves. Overall, there is an impressive range of bike pumps on the market today utilizing modern technologies to make your life easier. Hopefully, this guide will help you to choose one with the features you require.

Balance Bike Buyers Guide
What is a balance bike?
It’s a bicycle that has been created to be a safe alternative to tricycles and bikes with training wheels. They are usually meant for younger kids, but you can buy them for various age groups (12 months- 3 years/ 3 years- 6 years/ 6 years- 10 years).
What are the features of a balance bike?
These bicycles don’t include any pedals or training wheels, they strip the common bicycle design to the bare minimum to help the child learn to balance first instead of them having to focus on pedals, brakes and balancing at the same time.
The handlebars and seats are usually adjustable too so that the bike can grow with your child over a period of time. It will have them get used to balancing and riding before moving on to focusing on pedals and brakes. It is also common for these types of bikes to have footrests in the middle of the bike to help the children discover the concept of balance and help them keep their feet in a safe place when gliding.
What are the benefits of a balance bike?
Usually, kids are expected to focus on maintaining balance, peddling and operating the breaks at the same time. This can be a very tough task for a young three year old and can cause many injuries in the process due to the learning curves. When trying to jump in like that, the end result is usually crying, scraped knees and bruises. This can discourage the child heavily from trying to bicycle again because they associate it with pain and humiliation. For more benefits of cycling, read the study.
When giving your child a balancing bike however, they are able to cruise and glide along while having no pedals and letting their feet have full control of the speed. This will build confidence and switching to a bicycle with pedals later on should be no problem, since the child will have already learned to control the bicycle and the balance principles.
What’s the difference between a balance bike and a tricycle?
Tricyles are bicycles for kids that have one wheel at the front, two at the back, brakes and pedals. This kind of bike usually builds too many comfort zones and leaves your child relying on gliding while already having the balance settled by the third wheel instead of using their bodies. This also means that your child will get so confident that they will never want to try out a real bicycle since their comfort zone lies within the third wheel, where they don’t have to put in any effort.
In contrast, balancing bikes will have your child rely on using the feet to cruise along instead of an extra wheel. This will be training their balancing since they will have to know which was to lean when gliding. This will gradually build up your child’s confidence and help them feel a sense of accomplishment every time they get it right. This is something that won’t happen with tricycles, since they give you full comfort from the get-go.
What age should my child be before learning to ride?
It really depends on the child; some kids can be put on a bike as young as 12 months and do fine by just learning to cruise and glide, while some other kids can’t reach the ground at that age and have trouble coordinating their legs accordingly. Usually the average age to put your child on a balance bike is 24 months, although some specialized balance bikes for very young kids may also be an option!
How do you choose the best rated balance bike?
Kids can be fussy, and it’s good to know exactly what color and design your child would like before settling on a final purchase! There are sometimes dozens of designs and patterns to choose from even for just one product. There are also many options to choose from: whether you would like air-free or inflatable tires, brakes or no brakes, steel or wooden frame. All this is important since each age group will need something different and suitable just for them.
For example, maybe older kids are able to take care of heavier, steel framed bikes properly and won’t get in too many accidents with them. This will help them to find more balance since the bike is heavier. Younger kids however may fall over a lot as they try and find their way and therefore maybe wooden or lightly made aluminium bikes would be better for them. It’s also good to measure your child and estimate what kind of bike would be ideal for them. Some kids are exceptionally small or big for their age, and this will impact the bike that they will feel most comfortable on.
Also make sure that they understand the concept of a balancing bike and that they know how to use it safely!

Electric Bike Buying Guide
There are so many more great electric bike products out there, but above are the top ten that have been selected for review and to demonstrate a range of features and attributes that you may not have considered you would be looking for.
The question remains, what are you looking for when you are buying an electric bike? Consider the following criteria discussed in our buying guide below to give you a little bit more of a clearer picture.
Battery
The battery that comes with the electric bike is important. You need to be verifying:
a) How long does it take to charge? You don’t want to have to wait around for a full day if you run the battery flat. Average charging time would be around three hours to get a full charge.
b) What size is the battery? This is important as it dictates how many miles you can get from one single charge. If you are using your bike for your daily commute, this becomes important quickly.
c) Is the battery detachable? This is a matter of security as well as a matter of convenience. You want to make sure the battery can’t be stolen and that if needed, you can remove it at will.
d) Is the battery protected for all weather conditions? If the answer is no, then this may not be the bike for daily use. The battery should be in a protective casing to keep it safe from all types of weather.
Electric Motor Size
The size of the electric motor will determine how powerful your electric bike is. It also determines what speed the bike can go at, what weight it can take and how durable the bike will be in the long run.
All electric bikes come with a variety of different electric motor sizes that are usually powerful enough to be able to support an average sized adult. However, this information is definitely worth checking out pre-purchase- just in case!
Range
Ask yourself: How far do I need to travel on my electric bike? If the answer is: Just a few miles, then it doesn’t really matter. However, if you are intending to use your bike on a daily basis, then the range becomes a little bit more relevant. Perhaps you may be using your bike for your daily commute to work and back, or maybe just on adventure days. Commuter bike options may be of more interest, though.
Regardless, you need to know exactly how many miles you can get out of a charge so that you don’t end up struggling unnecessarily and behind schedule. Most mainstream electric bikes will provide a range of around 20 miles, often more, from one charge.
Speed
How fast do you need your bike to go? An average speed that an electric bike is capable of is around 18 MPH. This is quite fast and will definitely get you where you need to a lot faster than the average pedal bike or by walking. However, there are some bikes that can go up to 28-30 MPH.
These speeds may be for the more extreme hobbyists out there. Of course, this usually is dependent on the physics in the equation. What weight is the person riding and what height is the person riding will dictate the top speed that the electric bike is capable of. With that in mind, the majority of electric bikes can sustain at top speed capacity of around 260 lbs.
Brakes
Brakes are important. Brakes are the key safety feature of any vehicle, and the electric bike is no exception to this. If you are using your bike for top speeds, electric mountain biking or riding it around traffic, you need to be diligent that the brakes provided on the bike are fit for purpose.
The majority of electric bikes will be fitted and made with front and rear brakes, which provide extra safety and extra stopping power. However, this is not always the case and is definitely something that needs researching before making any purchase. The brakes are the last thing you need to be worrying about while riding!
Design
Is this bike multipurpose? I.E., Does the bike function as an electric bike AND a push bike if necessary? This is true of most electric bikes, but not all. If you want one for the beach or mountain, electric fat bikes may be more suited.
It is worth considering in case something goes wrong with the technology, and you need to continue with your journey. Lots of electric bikes can be adapted into pedal bikes with ease.
Warranty
Does the electric bike come with a warranty? Hopefully, the answer is a big fat YES. Otherwise, you may end up spending a lot more money than you had originally planned. A good warranty should be at least a year and cover all the important parts that may fail. If it doesn’t, you may need to look for additional insurance.
Did you Know?
Electric bikes are undeniably much better for the environment than doing your daily commute by car or other modes of heavier transport.

Mountain Bike Under $1000 Buyers Guide
What to look for in a mountain bike under $1000
As innovations improve and expand in the world of mountain bikes, so many more options open up to consumers. In the old days, there were only a few frame styles, a few pedal styles, and limited accessory add-ons. Now we are able to have our pick of the litter. This is fantastic for mountain bikers but also can add to buyers confusion.
How do you know what you should be looking for in a mountain bike? Especially when you’re talking about budget options, you want to make sure you’re still going to get the trail runner you need. Here is a short explanation of what you should look out of in a mountain bike under $1000.
Size
Bikes are not one size fits all. If you’ve ever ridden a bike that is too small or too large, you may know the discomfort doing so can cause. If a bike is too small, you won’t be able to get the amount of power thrust into the pedals to push you up the hill. If it is too large, you maybe won’t be able to reach the pedals at all. Bikes are made with different heights in mind. The typical sizing options are as follows:
If you stick with this general outline of frame sizing for your height, you will generally be okay and have a bike that is the right size for you. Keep in mind that mountain bike sizing is different from a road bike and hybrid bike sizing. This is not an umbrella sizing chart.
Tire Width
The tire size and width will be determined by a few factors. What type of terrain you are riding, what experience level you have, and what kind of control you want to have over the bike. It is recommended that at some point, riders test out some wider tires. Tires between 2.5 and 3 inches will offer a ton of stability on the bike.
This is great for people who want a little extra peace of mind on the bike and to help you steer clear of trees and rocks. Wider tires will absolutely help you stay in a little better control. With wide tires, you lose a little bit of speed and agility. You are a little less able to pick up the velocity you may need on a flatter or dryer trail.
If you are going to be riding a lot of rough, unpredictable, downhill terrain, then try out some wider tires and see how they feel. If you can afford to gain a little bit of speed and mobility by dropping your tire size, eventually you will need to replace tires anyway, so you can always give them a try. Riders on more dry and straight terrain will definitely benefit from a smaller tire width.
Wheel Size
Wheel and tire size are a bit different. We covered the tire size already, but you also want to note what size of wheel you want. This means the diameter of the entire rim. The larger the rims, the smoother your ride may be. Generally rims come in sizes such as 25″ – 29″. 29-inch tires are a large standard for mountain bikes.
If you want to be able to gain a little bit of a smoother ride, then a larger tire may be what you want to try out. Although, the more size you have in a tire, the more weight your bike will have. This will affect the maneuverability and portability of your bike.
Frame
There are various types and sizes of frames you can choose from. A typical term that is used is reached. Some bikes are being made with longer reach as they offer riders a more centered weight distribution. This can give a lot more control on faster downhill descents while decreasing stability at slower speeds.
Again think about the type of terrain and riding you’ll do. Where you need more control, you may want to go with a frame that puts your center of gravity a little lower. On flatter terrain, you can afford to be a little higher off the ground.
Suspension
Dual suspension is great if you are going to be bouncing off of rocks and want to save your keister. Added suspension simply keeps things less rigid and allows for some play. If you’re on extra rugged terrain, having back suspension may allow you to ride for longer and with more comfort. On flat terrain, a dual suspension is not always necessary.
You will only need a slightly loosened front suspension to help save your wrists from any unexpected jolts. The length and allowance of your suspension will be determined by how hard and rigorous you ride. If you need the extra cushioning, then having dual suspension can be a butt-saver in the long run.
Derailleurs
Some bikes come with derailleurs in the front that give you more variety in the speeds. Although in the larger picture, the speeds you will have will generally be very close. A front derailleur offers a little more of a smooth transition between your speeds. This also means there is more in between your pedals and the frame.
With a more simple design, and losing the front derailleur, you gain stability and tightness in the bike. You may not need the extra derailleur at the front, so decide whether or not you want that extra stability over the more versatile speeds. Also, front derailleurs add more moving parts and possible components that can break later on.
Conclusion
Are you ready to hit the trails? Hopefully, we have summed up the necessary information that you will need to make a confident buying decision. There are still a ton of factors that could come into play and many of them you will learn as you gain experience on the trail. Enjoy your next ride.

Bike Lights Buyers Guide
Bike lights are a legal requirement, and it is so important for you to get it right. You are required by law to have a headlight and a red taillight on your bike to ensure that you are visible at night. Having lights on your bike is a great way to keep you safe and, as you are preventing accidents from occurring, you are actively making the roads a safer place to be too.
Below, we’re going to explore and detail our complete buying guide, so you know exactly what goes into making a high-quality bike headlight and therefore know exactly what to look for to ensure you’re spending your money in the right places.
Budget
The absolute first step you’re going to want to take is making sure you’re defining how much you’re willing to spend. It’s worth doing this before you start looking at bike lights because it’s easy to get caught up with the prices and what’s available and you just end up buying anything.
This isn’t a way to get the best deal.
Since you’ll be buying a headlight set that contains all your mounting equipment and everything else, as well as both a front and rear light, an ideal price is around $30-50. This will have everything you’re going to need unless you’re looking for something really special (in which case you should already know what you’re looking for!)
Many people will use their bike lights during the day when riding on the road to ensure that they are visible and can be seen by all motorists. In order to ensure that you are safe when cycling on the road or a night you need to consider:
Bulb Type & Brightness
Perhaps the most important thing when looking into bike lights is how bright they are. The brighter the light, the more visible you will be on the road. In most cases, the brightness of a light is measured in lumens, although this may not apply to some LED models. The highest lumens throughout this review is 1200 lumens in the Te-Rich Rechargeable Bike Lights Front and Back.
Most bike lights throughout this review are LED. LED lights are the most popular kind of bike light as they are compact, relatively affordable, and durable. This kind of light source, which is used in the BV Bicycle Light Set Super Bright 5 LED Headlight, is long-lasting and cheap to run.
Kind of Beam
If you are looking for a bike light to be used on the road, then a beam light is most appropriate. Luckily, a lot of bike lights are designed to be used on the road so they have a controlled beam that will not distract motorists while still keeping you illuminated.
Lights such as the Cycle Torch – Shark 500 USB Rechargeable Bike have a flat beam that has been specially manufactured to be used on the road. Many other models throughout this review have multiple light settings that can be used in different locations.
The BV Super Bright (300 Lumens) Rechargeable Bike Light Set has three light settings which can be used to brighten or dim the bulb depending on where you are riding or what the weather is like. In order to find the best bike light for riding on the road look for narrow or flat beams. Alternatively, you can find bike lights that have multiple light modes to adjust when appropriate.
Waterproof?
Bike lights should be used in every season, but it is likely that you will use them more often in the fall and winter. This means that it is important for your bike lights to be waterproof and weather-resistant in order to be suitable for the harsh weather of these seasons. Most lights throughout this review are made to be waterproof, although some materials are better than others.
Silicone is a popular material used for bike lights, as seen on the Malker Bicycle Light Front and Rear Silicone LED Bike Light Set, due to the fact it is durable, flexible, and waterproof. ABS plastic is also a popular material used in bike lights. The TeamObsidian Bike Light Set – Super Bright LED Lights have a metallic base and are reinforced with ABS to make them weather resistant and suitable for wet conditions.
Ease of Installation
It goes without saying that you don’t want to waste any time in your life trying to fiddle the lights and set them up on your bike. Whereas before you would have needed Allan keys and spanners to bolt the equipment to your bike, this is no longer the case.
Instead, most bike light sets come with plastic mounts and clips that can be easily attached to your bike handlebar and your seat-bar, and then you can simply pop on your light. When you need to remove the light, you don’t have to remove everything, only the light.
While this is a great feature, especially when you need to keep taking the light off to charge every now and then, you’ll need to make sure your chosen headlight set actually comes with it!
Durability
You need to spend your money on a headlight set designed to last. After all, you don’t want to take your headlights out in the rain once, and they stop working. That would be waste. Instead, looking for lights with an official IP waterproof rating.
As a minimum, you’ll want a rating of IPX6, but the higher the number (ascending to 10), the more waterproof and weather-resistant the device is. If you’re going to take your bike out in off-road conditions with lots of water around, you’ll want to headlights designed to last.
Furthermore, just look at the device to see if it comes with a warranty or guarantee. These typically last around two years, and if your preferred headlight comes with one, you know your device is at least going to last that long.
Battery Life
Another one of the most important considerations you’ll want to think about is how long the battery is going to last. After all, you don’t want to be cycling down a city road in the middle of the night to find the light dies and your safety is compromised.
Typically, the cheaper the set of headlights, the shorter the battery lifespan. Battery life will usually last a few hours, but if you want to look at stats, any battery over 3,000mAh will give a good boost of power.
The higher this number, the longer your battery is going to last per charge, and in terms of the overall lifespan. All you need to do is think about how long you need to use your lights per day and then match this up what you need.
Also, you’ll want to make sure the batteries are rechargeable. All the ones on our list are, but you’ll want USB charging. Otherwise, you’ll just need to keep buying new batteries, and this is just expensive!
Is it illegal to ride a bike without lights?
It is illegal to ride a bike on a public road in the dark without a headlight, taillight, and reflectors. It is important that you stay safe and keep yourself visible when cycling at night to prevent accidents on the road.
There are specific regulations about what kind of lights you need and where they need to be placed depending on your location. Before riding your bike at night, you should check these regulations and purchase bike lights.
Summary
The importance of choosing the right bike headlights for you can never be understated – and it’s the law. This might sound deep, but your life can literally depend on making the right decision. Fortunately, it’s safe to say there are plenty of options out there for you to choose from, so simply think about what you need and get the one that suits you best!

Road Cycling Shoes Buyers Guide
If you are serious about your cycling performance, you will find that a suitable pair of road biking shoes helps you to ride to the best of your abilities. However, there are many factors to consider and features to look out for when buying road cycle shoes.
Of course, comfort and functionality are major priorities, but have you considered that making adjustments quickly and easily to the fit of your shoes may impact the quality of your ride? Or that purchasing a more versatile shoe could save you money if you enjoy spinning and indoor cycling as well as road biking? Our guide takes you through some of the most important things to look for in your next pair of road cycling shoes.
How do I find a shoe with a good outsole?
A stiff outsole is important in any road cycle shoe, as it will keep your foot in a comfortable position and let you achieve optimum power transfer. This will allow you to pedal harder and faster, and to get the most out of your ride. Brands use different methods to create a rigid sole, with more expensive shoes sometimes sporting a stiffer sole than entry-level options. Materials including nylon, composite or carbon-fiber are common in cycle shoe outsoles.
As a beginner, you may find a shoe which has a small amount of flex slightly more comfortable, although the energy transfer may not be as great as in stiffer shoes. Also take into account that a lighter sole is generally better for fast pedaling, allowing you to achieve more on your ride.
Will my shoes support my cleat type?
It is important to check that whichever shoe you buy matches the cleat system of your choice. Some cycle shoes will only accept 2 or 3-bolt cleats, while others are more versatile, meaning that you can use different types of cleat with the shoe. 3-bolt cleats are the most common with road cycling shoes, as they provide a wide platform, and most products at a higher price point will only be compatible with 3-bolt systems.
2-bolt cleat shoes are easier to walk in, which may be ideal if you plan on off-road journeys where you may need to spend time on your feet. If you are planning to use your shoes for spin classes as well as road cycling, there are products which will accommodate this too. Overall, it is important to consider whether you want a shoe which is designed specifically and solely for road biking, or one which offers you entry-level value and versatility.
What type of closure is best?
Road cycling shoes use a variety of closure types. Look for styles which will offer a comfortable, precise fit, which you can easily alter on rides. Laces are seen on some bike shoes but can be awkward and time-consuming to readjust, making them less popular than other closure styles.
Lightweight Velcro straps offer great value and are ideal for getting a comfortable, precise fit. However, this type of closure is not the most durable over time and can also be a little tricky to adjust on the go. Nevertheless, many entry-level cycle shoes – and some higher-end ones – opt for this style of closure to keep prices low while still providing a great fit. Plus, they are far easier to adjust than laces.
Ratchets are a closure option which is often used in combination with other styles. They can be more precise than straps, so are often used on slightly more expensive shoes. However, they are not loosened as easily as other closure types.
A secure dial such as the popular BOA is arguably the most effective option, as it offers extremely easy and precise adjustments. Cyclists can effortlessly make incremental changes to the fit of their shoes even while on the go with a dial system, and they are highly secure. Dials are commonly used on high-end, professional shoes. If the exceptional performance of a dial closure sounds like something you would appreciate in a cycling shoe, be prepared to spend a little more.
What materials should I look for?
Many road biking shoes sport a synthetic leather upper. The advantage of this material is that it wipes clean easily, making it a great option for outdoors. The upper of your road bike shoe should feel durable yet comfortable.
Ventilation is important in cycling shoes, so look out for mesh panels or windows in your footwear. Without enough well-placed ventilation, your feet will overheat causing discomfort, unwanted odors, and sweatiness. Breathable fabrics will also ensure your feet keep cool, especially in summer.
If you plan to ride at night, you will probably want a shoe with some highly visible elements. Reflective strips or accents on cycle shoes are a great option for improved safety. Keep in mind that white or brightly colored footwear may also show up in the dark.
How do I find a comfortable shoe?
Look at the composition of the inner sole and note features such as a molded heel cup. A toe box with ample room will protect your feet against rocks or other outdoor hazards, as will a bumper.
Also, consider the width of the shoe and pay attention to sizing guides when buying online. Keep in mind that road cycling shoes may feel stiff and difficult to walk in, but this is normal. They are designed to allow you to cycle efficiently, and therefore will not feel like sneakers.
Conclusion
There is a range of factors to consider when buying road cycling shoes, from materials to cleat systems. Hopefully, this guide will help you to make an informed decision when choosing which cycle shoes to opt for to improve your performance and comfort on rides. At the end of the day, different cyclists will have diverse priorities, and you should consider what features will benefit you the most.

If you happen to have the right cleats and pedals, however, the Gavin Off Road MTB shoes are a great choice, with a rigid but lightweight nylon fiberglass sole for high-level force transfer on every pedal push. The uppers are made from durable faux leather with breathable mesh panels, keeping your feet cool but also well protected during rough cycling sessions.
Pros:
+ SPD Cleat compatible
+ 3 strap fastening
+ Faux leather and mesh upper
+ Lightweight
+ Rigid sole
Why We Liked It – A sturdy option, the GavinOff-Road Mountain Cycling Shoes MTB offer high performance and good foot care with minimal frills. These are good lightweight shoes with strong enough construction to protect your feet in even the roughest of environments.
Cycling Shoes Buyers Guide
Most bike shoes come with a 3 strap Velcro fastening system, which provides a strong grip on your feet while still being easy to adjust to different foot shapes. This also has the advantage of being quick to put on and take off, speeding up the process of changing between your regular shoes and dedicated cycling shoes when getting on and off the bike.
Alternatives are available, however. Some models offer drawstring closure, which is even faster but less secure and offers less precision when tightening the shoes. Alternatively, ratcheted buckles are used on certain models of a bike shoe, allowing very precise tightening of the shoe through a ratcheted dial attached to the closing strap. These areas secure as shoe fastenings come, but a little fiddlier to put on and tighten than some of the alternatives.
Soles
The soles of most bike shoes are made from a strong, solid nylon material, giving stability and strength without adding much extra weight. These soles tend to be a little flexible, however, so most higher end bike shoes reinforce them with something. The material used for this ranges from fiberglass to steel, with the more premium options tending to use carbon fiber for the lightest possible rigid sole.
The main difference between the different reinforcing materials is in their weights, but there will also be slight differences in feel and flexibility between them. Rigidity is important for high-performance cycling, as it increases the amount of force transferred from your foot to the pedal as you push the pedal down.
More flexible soles absorb more of the force, while more rigid options transfer closer to 100% of your input to the pedal, reducing the energy input required for strong, high performance pedaling.
Cleats
Bike shoes require cleats to properly interface with the pedals on the bike. There are, however, a range of different cleat styles available, and both the interface with the pedals and the interface with the soles of the shoes themselves needs to be considered. Read up on which types of cleat the shoes are compatible with before making a purchase, as incorrect cleat options will not fit to the shoes or pedals, causing problems as you try to cycle!
Why do I even need dedicated cycling shoes?
The interfacing cleats mentioned above are the primary reason for choosing to wear dedicated cycling shoes. This close interface prevents your feet from slipping, keeping them comfortable and stable on the pedals no matter what you do. Cycling shoes are also lightweight and strong, protecting and supporting your feet in the specific movements and strains of cycling in ways that more general sports shoes will not provide.
Do I need different types of shoes for various forms of cycling?
While you don’t actually need different types of bike shoes for different forms of cycling, the difference between mountain biking and spin cycling is substantial; they put a strain on different areas of your feet and require fairly different approaches. As such, a dedicated pair of shoes for one type of cycling can substantially improve your performance.
Good all-around bike shoes will improve your performance in pretty much every type of cycling, but the maximum performance boost is always going to come from something specifically designed to fit the kind of cycling in question; mountain biking shoes have more focus placed on strong grip and rigid toes, while spin cycling shoes are likely to be more lightweight and relatively rigid across the entirety of the sole.
These offer different benefits and therefore will be most effective when used on the corresponding form of cycling. So while you may not need specific shoes for different bikes, it’s certainly something worth considering if you do a lot of cycling on different types of bike.
Conclusion
Whatever your planned usage, a good pair of bike shoes are an essential part of your cycling wardrobe. Some of the shoes above are designed for versatility, ideal for cycling to work or spinning classes, while others are more specifically designed for high-speed road cycling. Consider your cycling plans before buying, and choose whichever pair of shoes seems to fit your personal needs best.
When it comes to a market as complex and technical as bike shoes, there is no objective best pair of shoes, and what matters is choosing the right shoes for you personally, based on whichever criteria matter most to your cycling habits and foot care needs.
The cycling shoes discussed above are among the best readily available shoes on the market in 2020, and all of them are good, durable purchases for most purposes. Hopefully, the breakdown above will clear up some of the more confusing aspects of shopping for bike shoes and help you to understand which features are most important to your personal cycling style, helping you to buy with full confidence that the shoes you have chosen are the best possible pair of bike shoes for you.
For all of us mountain dwellers who need to have the fresh air and the company of wildlife around us, we need to have the right tires for our mountain bikes. Tires are one of the cheaper but more important parts of the bike and will largely determine the level of grip and performance you get out of your tires.
We have decided to put together a list of the 5 best mountain bike tires in 2021. Here you can compare different tires and decide which one has the right features for your riding style.
Goodyear doesn’t just help keep cars on the road. They also work to keep you gripped to your favorite mountain path. These tires will fit on rims that are 2″-2.125″ and 26″ rims. This is a basic tread pattern that will give you a good grip on softer surfaces like grass and dirt.
The folding bead design helps the tire to stick strongly to the rim and is easy to store if you are using them as a set of spares. They have great value and are a good place to start for beginner mountain bikers.
Pros:
+ Folding bead
+ Lightweight
+ Grip soft surfaces
+ Great value
Why we like it – As far as a reliable and durable pair of mountain bike tires go, these ones by Goodyear are all you need to get started. They are not fitted with the latest grip patterns and most advanced rubber, but on softer surfaces, they feel great and grip well to the ground.
All-terrain tires are meant for riders who sometimes need to ride the roads to get to the trailhead. These tires are meant to be ridden on both smoother, harder surfaces, as well as softer, rougher surfaces. You get the versatility of being able to go from pavement to rock pile with great grip and strength. They are meant for bikes with rims at 26’X1.9″.
Since they are slightly narrower than some mountain bike tires, they will be suitable for the rider who doesn’t need as much grip but likes to keep the rolling resistance to a minimum. They have a built-in flat-resistant layer to help protect from punctures.
Why we like it– The simplicity of being able to go from the road to the trail is really nice. Sometimes riding tires that are strictly meant for the mountain mean that riding on the pavement is often not an option. they still work great on the rougher trails as long as you don’t need a heavy duty style of a mountain bike tire.
The Maxxis Ardent TR Exo tire is designed to do it all when it comes to trail riding. It is built to have lower roll resistance to give you a lot better momentum on the trail. Very lightweight and adaptable to various trail conditions allow you to stay connected in the sun or the rain. The tubeless setup means that you will have less moving parts to worry about, and the tire becomes highly puncture resistant. The knobby designs are there to help you stay fully gripped to the trail on tight turns and to roll easily on flat terrain.
Pros:
+ High puncture resistance
+ All-around tire
+ Good hard terrain grip
+ Tubeless
Why we like it – This tire is an all-around dream that gives you confidence on rough trails as well as seamless momentum on smooth trails. The puncture resistance matches that of industry leaders and you won’t find yourself on the side of the road too often. With a tubeless design, you don’t need to worry about buying an extra inner tube to go along with it.
This tire will fit onto rims that are 26X2.1 inches. They are beefy when it comes to the treads. They grip perfectly to hard and soft surfaces with no problems at all. When riding up steep hills and descending at maximum velocity, they hold to the ground and give you the confidence you want in order to stay on top of it all.
They are really easy to install and have durable sidewall strength. This will help the tire resist bulges and pops when going around harsher corners and hitting heavier trail styles.
Why we like it – Whether your climbing, gliding, bombing, you can be confident with these tires beneath you. The look of them alone will make you want to take that tight turn at a higher velocity just because you can.
This mountain bike tire is great for easier trails. It is not specifically designed to take on more intricate and daring courses. The tread is more shallow which allows for less rolling resistance. The Kevlar tread center reduces the likelihood of punctures. So if you’re going over surfaces with lots of small rocks, you can be confident that it won’t blow out.
This tire measures 26X1.9″. The beading is made of steel to allow it to have a longer lifespan. This is a really comfortable riding tire and any cruiser will be happy to throw it on the rim.
Why we like it – Compared to many mountain bike tires, this one gives you the smoothest ride you can ask for. Although it isn’t meant for heavy trail riding, for more smooth trails you get a really nice gliding sensation and a nice and comfortable ride.
Mountain Bike Tires Buyers Guide
What to look for in mountain bike Tires
Mountain bike tires are made different from road bike tires, and that is because they have to deal with an entirely different world of circumstances. Dirt, gravel, mud, water, rocks, and other elements will be coming into contact with your tires and you want to be able to stay within your means all the while. So when you’re buying mountain bike tires, what are some of the things you need to look out for?
Tire Size
Mountain bike tires will come in sizes that range from 24 to 29 inches. Be sure that you know what size of tire you need to fit on your rim before going ahead and buying the tires.
Tire Width
Mountain bike tires will start at 1.8 inches and go all the way up to 3 inches in extreme cases. 1.2 inches may not seem like a lot, but when it comes to grip and rolling resistance, you will certainly notice it. The wider the tire, the more grip, and stability you will have. For really rough terrain with the loose ground underneath, wider tires can help you stay on top of your bike as opposed to underneath it. Wider tires also mean you will have more contact with the ground, therefore, more resistance. On flatter surfaces, it may be more difficult to pick up some extra steam. What type of surface will you be mostly riding on?
Riding Style
If you’re going to be riding really rocky and unpredictable ground, you’ll want to be equipped with mountain bike tires that can stick to the surfaces. Going over rocks, especially wet ones can cause you to slip out and fall. If you are not riding on really rough terrain and you are mostly going cross country riding, tires with less grip and a narrower base will be fine for you. That will allow you to pick up some more speed and stay fluent when going from downhill to uphill sections.
Rubber Hardness
The hardness of the rubber on your tire will determine how much grip, durability, and rolling resistance you will experience. A harder tire will be able to roll much easier but will lack extra grip. With softer rubber, you gain comfort and grip, but also gain rolling resistance.
The more rigorous your riding style is, the softer you may want your rubber to be. Harder rubber will help you stay at a necessary velocity when you are on a longer-term track. There are exceptions to the rule, however, and what works for one rider may work differently for another.
Tire Styles
You can get three different types of tires. The clincher, tubeless, and tubular.
Clincher tires use beading on the outside of the rubber in order for the tres to grip onto the trim. They require you to have an inner tube and utilize air pressure to maintain a tight seal. These types of tires are the easiest to replace but also the least durable.
Tubeless tires are meant for the more experienced riders. They offer higher puncture resistance and durability. The downside is that they are harder to replace and may take a bit longer. However, they are able to be ridden after a puncture for a short time, so your ride may not have to come to an abrupt end.
Tubular tires are a sort of hybrid of both. They still require an innertube but form a tighter seal around it to give the tire a little more strength and resistance to punctures or pinches.
Conclusion
There are many forms of mountain bike tires that will get you from point A to point Z. Paying attention to the factors we’ve listed can help you find the best tire for your purposes and have you gleaming while riding down the mountain in no time.

If you find that you cycle around with your lock attached to your bike rather than in a cycling backpack of some kind, you’ll find that the light weight design of this lock doesn’t slow you down at all once you’re cycling.
At our halfway point we have a lock that is probably one of the strongest — and heaviest — in our list here. This lock comes made of 16mm high performing steel, the kind that comes outfitted with a double bolt locking mechanism that’s been designed for durable resistance should anyone try pulling it out of place.
We weren’t joking when we said that this lock was durable — the coating found over the lock is one that will keep it not only secure but scratch-proof also. This is one of the best D locks going right now, check it out!

Why We Liked It – If you were looking for something a little bulkier for maximum durability, this will then be the lock for you!
A durable all-weather bike lock, that’s how we’d best go about describing the next lock in our list here. This lock from Via Velo is one of the most effective locks around, one that could go against any of the locks in our list here! This is a U lock, one that comes with a hexagonal PVC cover that actively resists corrosion from water and other elements.

+ 14mm bar
Why We Liked It – Consistency is key in bike locks, something that this Via Velo lock in particular has in spades.
Some like to have a little bit of extra length to play with so that they can wrap their cable around their bike multiple times! Titanker returns with their six feet bike lock, one that comes with all the bells and whistles you’ve probably come to expect from these guys. Again this is yet another combination lock, one that is rather easy to use once you’ve settled on a combination!
In terms of performance, this cable is one that can take a lot of punishment mostly due to the PVC coating that you’ll find spread over the top layer of the cable. Titanker has been included twice in this list for a reason, check out either of the two we’ve suggested if quality is what you’re looking for.
In the market for something that combines the bulkiness of some of the bigger locks out there with the simplicity of a combination lock? You’ll find that and more from Amazer’s heavy duty bike lock. This lock is made from 12mm hardened performance zinc, a material used in the shackle, as well as the bar — the bar, is coated in a PVC overlay to prevent scratching and increase durability simultaneously.

Having this amount of combinations — as we’ve already mentioned on one of the previous locks — is beneficial in making sure that your lock goes untampered with!
The strengthened zinc alloy lock is one that is covered with an ABS shell that won’t crack at low temperatures. The lock actually adopts a sealing plug system that keeps water and dust from entering the lock and breaking it outright!
Why We Liked It – This might be one of our favorite locks out of this list! It ticks a lot of boxes and is hands down one of the most secure we’ve come across!
If you are looking for the most secure lock going right now, it would have to be this one! Be warned, this lock is one of the heaviest locks around, one that is made from 14mm six-sided chain links that are next to impossible to break through. The protective nylon cover with hook and loop fasteners only add to the durability of this chain also.
We would recommend you only use this lock sparingly. When you might use this lock will depend entirely on the situations you find yourself in during your basic routine. It’s easy to believe that this lock is overkill and that’s because it technically is, but if you’re riding around in an expensive bike and don’t want it stolen, then this is an option for you. If not you can always opt for a cheap bike!
Why We Liked It – There are plenty of people out there who are never satisfied with the security of their bike lock, this isn’t one you need to worry about, it’s a monster!
Buyers Guide
Welcome to the buyer’s guide, a section where we cover some of the questions you might have after scanning our list above. Most of you that have come to this article are more than likely those who have either just purchased a new bike or have had one stolen in the past and are looking for a lock that is as secure as possible. No matter your reason, we hope that you find/have found what you’re looking for and decide on the right bike lock that works for you!
How we made our list?
This project was incredibly fun for us — despite the simplicity of the products discussed. Bike locks are an essential part of owning a bike for many reasons, we shouldn’t have to explain why that is. We have had our bikes stolen in the past — at first we were frustrated, angry even, but then we realized that we mostly had ourselves to blame given the quality of our lock; a lock that wasn’t as sturdy as we initially expected.
It’s very easy for someone to rush into purchasing the wrong sort of product without thinking it through. The lock we had originally was made from cheap plastic and could have been broken using your hands. We would often joke and state that losing our bike was the best thing that ever happened to us as it forced us out of our comfort zone and into the idea of the article you’re reading right now!
We worked alongside a few of our closest friends on this article — all of whom own bikes of their own and have actually had bikes stolen in the past also. Having multiple eyes on this article at any given time definitely helped us rid any bias that could have taken over this article. Not only that, but having multiple people in the room at any given time allowed us to confirm our thoughts or bounce ideas off of one another to make sure our minds were in the right place!
The goal here was to find some of the best bike locks around right now, something we believe we more than achieved given the diverse list of bike locks you see listed above. Our first step was to source some of the best bike locks around right now. We scoured the internet as well as catalogs to find some of the best bike locks around! This gave us a list of about 35 different bike locks.
A lot of our selections were quite similar to one another in not only the manufacturer but the look/features of them also. The second stage of this process was to eliminate these duplicate locks and find those that were far more consistent/reliable. User reviews on Amazon were incredibly helpful in understanding what other customers had to say once they actually had these products within their possession.
At this point, we had around 13 bike locks left to discuss. What happened next involved purchasing each bike lock and testing it out first hand to see how well it handled being used to chain an actual bike. Each lock worked just a little differently, some more surprising than others in terms of how durable it was.
Each lock was chained to a bike and then marked on a grade out of ten. Not only that, but we tried to break the locks using a variety of different tools to see how each lock handled being tampered with. Bolt cutters, saws, and regular blunt instruments were used to try and wear down each bike lock.
All locks were able to survive our tampering although some did end up scratching and sporting other noticeable damage. This was somewhat of a red flag for us, as over time scratches can dig deep and cause your bike lock to snap. Thanks to this process we were able to finalize our list! We tried to avoid changing our list as much as possible to keep the integrity of the list solid; something we believe we more than achieved!
Types of bike Locks
If you went through our list before reading this section, then you’ll know that there were various kinds of bike locks included, each as effective as the other in their own way. Riders should always choose a bike lock that fits them and their own personal preferences. Before you even think about purchasing a bike lock of your own, you should first outline your reasons for wanting to buy a bike lock.
Cable Locks
Cable locks are the sort of locks you should buy if you like wrapping your bike up securely. Cables tend to be a lot more flexible and lightweight compared to that of D locks and U locks. Most cables tend to come with combinations — although in some cases you’ll find some come with a key lock. In our experience, cable locks appear to be a lot easier to attach and detach with no waste in motion.
The number of dials on your combination might differ depending on the bike lock cable you own. We tend to go for locks with a five digit combination for added security and peace of mind. In terms of security, cables tend to be rather difficult to cut through or pull loose due to the mechanisms found within the lock and the coating found over the top of the cable.
D lock/U Locks
Something a little sturdier that is next to impossible to break through. D locks, and U locks tend to be far more study than cable locks although they are a tad bulkier/heavier in comparison. If you find that remembering a code is somewhat difficult, then owning a D lock/U lock is a lot easier to manage due to the keys you use to lock/unlock these bike locks outright! These locks require a couple more seconds to lock, but it’s definitely worth it if you are slightly worried about your bike being tampered with.
Chain Locks
Chain locks are a lot heavier in comparison to the other two types of locks that we’ve just mentioned. Chain locks offer the maximum amount of security possible out of any bike lock, the only downside comes in having to carry it around with you. Chain locks are next to impossible to snap/bend/break, which definitely provides peace of mind to anyone looking to keep their bike secure!

It’s ideal for kids above 8 years age, has a long battery life, adjustable handlebars, rear disc brakes, droop-travel rear suspension with coil shock technology, shatter-resistant plastic fairings, pneumatic knobby tires, a front brush bar, acceleration control and a motor that works quietly and efficiently; these Razor drift trikes can conquer tough trails. Looking for a 2-wheeled bike? Check out Razor’s MX650 electric dirt rocket bike here. For kids under 14, the MX350 is a better choice.
As your kids grow up, it can get increasingly harder to keep their play limited to household-only activities. Your child may be growing bored, and you may find yourself wondering what kind of entertainment you can provide for them that doesn’t rob your budget. It has to be safe, engaging and fun. One of the products that fit all those categories is the Razor Dirt Quad riding toy.
As your child grows, they will be eager to explore the outside world, whether that is on foot or on wheels. Giving them a taste of the thrills that a dirt quad riding toy can provide is invaluable and can encourage them to be more independent, seeking adventure in unusual places.
Some parents may be wary of dirt quads, after all, they do look quite menacing and are often associated with dangerous races or daredevil acts. Luckily, the Razor Dirt Quad riding toy is meant for kids and has features that suit kids, too. With the fresh black styling and design, and the secure hand operated rear brake, the smooth ride, this dirt quad is built strong and sturdy. Check out this caster board by Razor for an alternative.
If you are interested in getting to know the components that a Razor dirt bike is made out of, we have you covered!
Battery Life
The Razor Dirt Quad riding toy is powered by a 24V battery system. It consists of two 12V batteries and has to be charged for 12 hours after every use. It can offer up to 1 hour of outside fun after charging, which is just enough time to explore and have fun on the fields and roads outside. Interested in battery-powered toys? Check out the top electric scooters for kids here.
Charging
One thing to take into consideration is the charging time. 12 hours of charging can be a lot for a home that is watching their electricity bills. It’s important to take this factor into consideration since the quad only runs for one hour after charging. This means that you will have to charge it daily if your child will want to ride the toy daily, which is a huge possibility if they end up enjoying the quad. This, in turn, means that your electricity bills may significantly rise after purchasing the product.
If you have a good electricity plan this shouldn’t be a problem. If you find yourself worried about the expenses this quad may come with, we recommend asking a few people who already own the quad about the perks of keeping it. If your child uses the toy only during the weekends or during sunny days the expenses should stay at a minimum.
Age
The Razor Dirt Quad is ideal for kids above 8 years of age, since the quad can go pretty fast and needs a lot of coordination while steering. You should make sure that your child gets used to the quad when it’s not powered up.
Getting out the manual and quickly running through the safety instructions and the features of the quad should help the child get to know their new toy better before jumping into the driving. This way, they’ll know where to brake, how to steer and how to have good posture when driving.
If you will be taking them to the park to drive around, it’s also important to introduce them to basic driver manners and how they should interact with pedestrians when they cross their path.
The quad itself can also be used by younger children if they are tall and mature enough to handle and steer the toy on their own. Several parents have reported that their 6-7 year olds also fit fine on the quad and don’t have any trouble driving, racing, changing direction and having fun. Several parents have stated that they quad is ideal for their 4 year olds, too, as long as they are heavily supervised when using the quad. The quad supports any child that weighs up to 120lbs and as long as your child fits the dimensions and the maximum weight limit, they should be able to keep using the quad for a long time.
Adjustability
Many kids don’t like parting with their favorite toys, especially if the toys have accompanied them through many childhood memories. Luckily, the Razor Dirt Quad bike has adjustable handlebars that you can adjust to your child’s growing height. If they start using the quad at 6 years old, they can easily keep using it till they’re 12, and if they have siblings they can easily pass it on.
Safety
The Razor Dirt Quad ride on can look like a daredevil toy that only the teenager neighborhood kids would be allowed to use, however that couldn’t be further from the truth.Even though the quad looks sporty and menacing thanks to its stylish design, it’s relatively harmless.
The Razor 24volt Electric Dirt Quad ride on can only go at 10mph, which may seem slow, however it’s definitely faster than any parent can walk and is fast enough for your kids to get the adrenaline thrill. It’s not fast enough, however, for your kids to get thrown off! All parents who have had their kids use the quad do recommend putting a helmet on your child before putting them on the quad, since riding on wet or mountainous terrain can be challenge.
Brakes & Wheels
If your child feels like they are going too fast, they can always use the hand operated brakes to pause and take a breather. This feature is ideal for those times when you get an unexpected pedestrian or animal running out in front. The quad also comes with semi-professional wheels that will endure wet weather, bumpy roads, muddy grass patches and much more. There’s not much that this little quad can’t handle, and is ideal for any adventurous boy or girl.
Dimensions & Additional Features
The Razor Dirt Quad bike has dimensions of 43”L x 24”W x 31.5”H and needs to be assembled. The quad bike itself weighs about 89 lbs, and the box it comes in is rather large, weighing over 110 pounds. It’s important to know that you have a place to put the quad before purchasing it. It should be kept within a dry area that doesn’t have any droughts or damp surroundings.
